Graded/ungraded cards
Graded cards have been professionally evaluated by experts such as the PSA. They will assess your card and provide a rating from 1-10, with 10 being the most valuable. Ungraded cards have not been assessed by the professionals, and therefore, will be considerably less valuable.
Condition
The condition of your Charizard Pokémon card will significantly impact its grade, and in turn, its sale price. Even if you have an extremely rare card, selling it in poor condition will considerably lower its value.
Edition
Naturally, the edition you have will impact the value of your Charizard Pokémon card. The main sets to be aware of include:
Base set
Pokémon base set cards were the first official set released, and are frequently the most valuable. There are three different editions available:
- 1st edition – These have a “1st edition” marker on the card.
- Shadowless – These cards have no “1st edition” marker and no shadow next to Charizard.
- Unlimited – These cards feature a shadow next to the Charizard image.
1st edition cards are the most expensive, followed by shadowless cards. Though the least valuable, unlimited cards still command a good price at auction.
Later sets
A Charizard Pokémon card from a later set will typically not be as valuable, but can still sell for a good price.
Versions
There are also different versions of the cards available, with variations in pricing:
- Non-holo – The boxed image of Charizard is non-holographic.
- Holo – On these, the image of Charizard is holographic.
- Reverse holotype – On these cards, everything except the Charizard image is holographic.
Reverse holotypes are particularly valuable, when in mint condition. Typically, holographic cards are more valuable than the regular non-holo versions.
Print run
Some card sets, including the 1st edition base set, are known to have a low print run. These are considerably more valuable.
